Emma Massey and Ramelle Massey a mother and daughter team, lead one of the few African American Women-Owned brokerages in the United States. They offer insurance products and services that are important to businesses and individuals. Massey Agency has been committed to the community since the late Raymond J Massey opened its doors in 1975. This legacy continues with his wife Emma and daughter Ramelle as they provide job opportunities and internship programs for local residents. As exemplary role models and true professionals, they contribute financially to local organizations and mentor young people to achieve success. As a well-respected business specializing in a wide range of commercial insurance, personal insurance, and risk management services for the past four decades the agency has garnered numerous awards for its dedication to providing security and quality protection for its clients.

Ramelle J. Massey, ARM, CPIA

President and Chief Executive Officer
Ramelle J. Massey is recognized as an entrepreneur and a notable New Jersey business leader. With over 15 years as an industry professional, she possesses extensive knowledge in Insurance Products and Risk Management/Loss Control Services. Her firm, The Massey Agency has been located in Newark, NJ for over 40 years works with public entities, government agencies, corporations, non-profit organizations, and individuals and has been listed in NJBIZ as one of the Top 50 insurance brokerages in NJ.

Ramelle now serves as President of the firm which was begun by her father the late Raymond J Massey. The company has been family-owned and operated since 1975 and she continues their family legacy.

Ramelle manages the company’s commercial and privately held business clients providing them with quality insurance products at competitive pricing. Her firm represents 13 nationally recognized insurance companies and has grown through its strategic partnerships with the top National Insurance Brokerage firms working jointly on public entity clients and on major construction projects. The company is MBE/WBE/SBE certified with the NY/NJ Minority Supplier Development Council, the Port Authority of NY & NJ, the State of New Jersey, NJ Transit and the City of Philadelphia. Her firm is licensed to do business in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, and Connecticut.

After studying at Tufts University including time abroad in Talloires France she obtained a BA in Economics. She then earned an MBA in Finance from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. She aggressively pursued a career in finance & banking working as a financial analyst at Merrill Lynch and as a financial controller at Citigroup prior to taking over the family business.

NJBIZ named Ramelle one of the Top 50 Women in Business in the State of NJ. She sits on the Business Board of the Newark Museum and is a member of the Professional Insurance Agents, Newark Regional Business Partnership, the African American Chamber of Commerce, Impact 100 and, the National Association of Tax Professionals

Emma A. Massey is Vice President of the Massey Insurance Agency, established in 1975 by her late husband Raymond J. Massey. Mrs. Massey took control of this business in 1983 and continued to enhance the Insurance Agency for over two decades. Massey Agency is a Full-Service Insurance Brokerage located in the renaissance city of Newark, NJ where the business is an anchor of the community. Mrs. Massey successfully grew the agency through her ability to adapt the company’s products and services to meet the needs of a very diverse clientele. As a result of her expertise and dedication, the Massey Insurance Agency is one of the very few Minority/Woman Owned Brokerage Firms that offer one-stop commercial products and services working in partnership with the nation’s largest insurance carriers and brokerage firms.

Mrs. Massey has strong professional roots in the Insurance Industry and an outstanding community presence and reputation. In addition to having held the position of President of the Essex County Chapter of the Independent Insurance Agents of NJ (IIANJ), Emma is a member of the Executive Committee of the Newark Regional Business Partnership (NRBP) working on “Building Business for a Greater Newark.” She continues to forge relationships with business leaders to expand the scope of the Massey Agency.

Emma Massey is a graduate of Montclair State University where she received her Bachelors’s and Masters’s Degrees in Business Education. She retired after 25 years in Education from Union County Regional High School District #1 to head the family insurance business.
